Those who have to present documents in other European countries have had to have the so-called APOSTILLE. Whether it’s powers of attorney, birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates or divorce certificates, it was always an extra effort and always cost more. This has come to an end within the framework of the European Union. On February 16, 2019, EU Regulation 2016/1191 entered into force and, with it, various simplification rules, which now also make – in many cases – the apostille a thing of the past.
The regulation regulates in detail to which documents it applies, and although there are exceptions, it is once again a step in the right direction: less bureaucracy and less costs for all those affected.
